Before and After!!
He looks like a completely different dog, doesn't he? Unfortunately Puddy went waaay too long between groomings, and ended up a big matted fluffball. It wasn't anyone's fault, really, it's just that Bichon's need constant attention in that area, and when the money isn't there, it isn't there.
So, today, Puddy visited Barks Fifth Avenue. Ken had told me that the Pudster gets nervous when he goes out like that, so I was advised that it would be best if I held him when I took him in. I almost burst into tears when I had to hand him over to the lady. I know that sounds really stupid, but I didn't want him to think that I was just going to hand him to this stranger and then never come back, you know?
My apartment felt so empty all day without him here. He was finally ready about 5:00pm. Unfortuntately, the groomer told me that they realized that he has something called "hematoma's" on both ears. When dogs have an ear infection, or allergies, or they shake their head too much, it breaks the blood vessels in thier ears, and these pockets of blood form. She said that they had to take all of the hair off his ears, and he was shaking his head a whole bunch because it probably felt really weird.
Anyways...It doesn't appear that he's in any pain, but I'm keeping an eye on the situation. However, he's been really exhausted all afternoon. He's been sleeping pretty much the whole time. I'm pretty sure I remember Jennifer's dog acting the same way after they were groomed, so I'm not worried. It just kind of weird because usually he has all kinds of energy, and of course now I'm worried that he's all tired and doesn't feel good because of his ears.
Ken came down late tonight to visit him and to make sure he was doing okay. Puddy was very excited to see him and of course greeted him with a lot of jumping and face-licking. When he left, it was the first time that Puddy didn't try to go with him. That made me kind of happy. Maybe he finally feels at home.

our dogs would be disasters if they HAD to be groomed, fortunately, they just have to be washed, which is a TOTAL pain in my ass, but it's FREE! :) are the things w/ his ears in or on them? when reavy shakes his head a lot it means his ears are bothering him. unfortunately, he is prone to ear issues (hound part of him). but our vet gave (haha like a vet GIVES you anything!!)us some ear cleaner and i just have to watch them and clean them out every so often and we've never had another ear problem. poor little guy HATES it, he gets all sad when he sees me w/ the bottle. :( but it works AND it smells FANTASTIC! :)
Well, let me tell you my last doggie grooming story. I took both of them to get washed last week. Robbie came back with awful diarrhea and Rory came home throwing up all night. The absolute last time they go to Petsmart to get baths. I think they give them a bunch of old, nasty treats or something. Ugh.
OMG jenny! did you call them and ask them what the fuck they gave your dogs and tell them you were never going there again!!?? poor r&r :( I bet that kennel/spa right up the road on huffmeister grooms.
Willie, that's what I'm going to do from now on -- just take them to the kennel place. They come home from there and they're happy and just sleep all day, and the next day. They're just worn out from sleep away camp! But that throwing up thing -- no way! Poor Rory wouldn't even get on the bed. She just stayed and slept on the bathroom floor, and then some time during the night she got on the bed. I felt so sorry for her.
Willie: The ear problem isn't in the ear canal, it's in the flaps. One ear seems to be better tonight, but the other one looks worse. He's been shaking his ears a lot since I got home tonight. He doesn't shake as much when I'm here and he's in my lap.
Jennifer: Poor sick doggies!!! I took Puds to this place called Barks Fifth Avenue on Cypress North Houston...it's where Ken had taken him before. He still seems kinda tired and not quite himself. I start to worry when he starts acting different, but I'm sure it's just because of the whole grooming/shaving thing. Plus, he's NAKED!! Maybe he's a little embarrassed!
You really should bring him to our next manager's meeting and, like, try and give a really serious presentation with him sitting in your lap.
Like maybe something about the Bookseller Curiculum?? :) Or maybe WLP? Yeah...that's the ticket!
