Ike

Hello all! First off, thanks for all of the emails/phones calls/text messages making sure we were okay during the storm. Everyone is safe, and we suffered only minor damage. The thing that sucks now is that the power is still out at my parents house. They are using a generator, but after tonight the gas will be gone, and there is NONE left around here.

The power was restored pretty fast at my apartment, although it went out again for about 3 hours Saturday afternoon. Me and the boy came home and we are enjoying being home. Puddy is glad to be home,too.

The storm really started about midnight or so, and the power went out around 1am. My dad and I stayed up and watched it through the windows in the living room, and it was pretty scary. Occasional we could see an weird blue/green glow in the sky, and it was transformers going out. The wind was horrible. At times it felt like the doors were going to blow in. The bad weather for us lasted until around 1pm or so.

There were people who didn't fare as well as we did. One of the houses down the street had a huge tree fall right on their house. I'm just glad it's over. I remember Hurricane Alicia back in 1983, and I don't remember being frightened then. Maybe it's because I was young.

My apartment didn't suffer any damage, but there are some huge pine trees that were ripped out of the ground, and one of the carports was blown away and all mangled up. I'll try to get some pictures of those tomorrow.
