Am I Stupid???

I have been having this really strong craving for cranberry juice. I started buying the 100% juice kind instead of the "cocktail" because I really preferred the more bitter taste. I also thought that drinking something that said "no sugar added" would be better for me than the sweeter version.

Well, I compared the labels today. Cranberry Juice Cocktail contains LESS sugar than the 100% Juice/No Sugar Added version. Should I have known this? The only way the juice version is better for you is that it has more potassium.

I guess you learn something new everyday.

Okay -- awesome and informative post -- take two.
You are stepping into my area here. And no, I'm not an expert on cranberry juice, but I am an expert on compulsive label reading. What you're seeing on the label in cranberry JUICE is the naturally occurring sugars in the cranberry itself. All fruit juices are going to have "sugar" like that in it.
Cranberry juice COCKTAIL has High Fructose Corn Syrup in it. Nasty stuff. A lot of people think it's contributing to the obesity epidemic in the US since it's in so much of our prepared food. I mean, it's in EVERYTHING!
So you're on the right track. I mean, juice in general is inferior to the actual fruit because you are getting so much sugar in it. But who the hell is going to eat plain cranberries? Natural sugar = good. HFCS = evil. Go and consume juice!

Damn. I bought the "cocktail". And I really don't like it. It tastes funny to me. Who knew you were so smart? :) Tell me this: Why is there loads of vitamin C in regular juice and cocktail, and none in the "lite" version?

Probably because the "lite" version is watered down. It's basically cranberry flavoring in a bunch of water.
